Marylou's Simple Yet Quaint Wedding

by 11/30/2008 4:36 PM

There were so many things that I love from this small and intimate wedding! I really felt fortunate to have worked for this wedding.
Marylou planned this wedding all the way from Boston but it worked out just as great because she was really organized and knew what she wanted. One of the first things she told me was she wanted all hydrangeas for her centerpieces. She loves simple and clean look, so we used that as a base for the decoration ideas.

They hosted about 70-80 guests in the beautiful Bolingbroke Mansion in Wayne, PA.The ceremony was held outdoor garden of the mansion. We simply used bows of Ivory and Espresso Brown color to match her theme colors (Sage, Espresso Brown and Ivory) and used minimal rose petals and pillar candles for the aisle decor.

For those who are interested to have their wedding at the Bolingbroke Mansion, here's a great idea that you can adapt for your own wedding there: they let you bring in your own decors for the mantles (there are 4 mantles total) and that means if you would like to take down the paintings they have hanging, you could. Marylou brought in her framed engagement pictures (big and small), a big mirror (AWESOME!) and candles.

Another great idea that anyone can adapt is placing framed engagement pic (or any couple pic) on the cocktail tables. It makes a great conversation piece and it's makes the cocktail tables more memorable.

As I've mentioned before, the centerpieces for the guest tables strictly use white hydrangeas with sprinkles of ivory roses.
Don't you just love the combination of these colors? ^_^

For the wedding cake, I used the antique ivory spray roses and seeded eucalyptus and I just love how the flowers and the twirling design on the cake look so good together! This cake decor is definitely my pride and joy. ^_^

Moving on to her personal flowers, we did a bouquet of ivory roses and mini callas with ti leaves collar for her and simple large callas bouquets for the bridesmaids. She used a few blooms of the antique ivory spray roses for her headpiece and she looked so pretty! ^_^

One of the most memorable moments for me at this wedding is when Baris, the groom who is from Turkey, read a poem for Marylou in Turkish. I thought that was really different and touching in many ways. They are such a sweet couple. ^_^

Sometimes, I am fortunate enough to get all the vendors contact info from an event, so...for your references, here are the vendors from this wedding:
- Caterer: Perfect Setting Catering (Debbie Diehl)
Debbie has done a lot of weddings at the Bolingbroke Mansion and so she definitely knows the ins and outs of this location.
She is also nice, friendly and helpful not only to the bride, but also to me, as a fellow vendor. I really appreciate that.

- Photographer: Mary Pat King Photography
I like her works and she did both the engagement and wedding pictures for Marylou and Baris. It does not seem that she has a website, so if you are interested in her service, please email me and I'll give you her email address.

- DJ: 4 Most Sound (Will)
He is awesome! Not only he's a nice guy, but he has a great collection of World Music! It's really nice to hear a different style of dance music at receptions and for Marylou and Baris' wedding, he played quite a lot of Salsa music. Love it!

To Marylou and Baris:
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your special day!
Many happy wishes for you two always! ^_^

A Wonderful Collaboration

by 11/30/2008 3:37 PM

I have the honor of working together with Debbie Wallace of Elegant Affairs by Dee for Ayanna and Cliff's wedding. I have nothing but high praises and good words for her high level professionalism and effectiveness. I mean, she really knows how to put the bride's mind at ease. I really appreciate her being there for both the bride and vendors. She and her staff truly care about the client and treat the vendors with respect. It was definitely a great experience working with her and her staff! And yes...I am glad to have witnessed the full benefits of having a wedding planner. ^_^ Highly recommended!

Now, on to the wedding...Ayanna's theme color is vibrant fall color consisting of reds and orange. For the personals, we kept it simple with all roses bouquet for the bride. We jazzed it up by adding red crystal pins and for the bridesmaids, we used tangerine-colored gerbera daisies to add  sweetness and fun to the party.

For the centerpieces, we did 4 tall centerpieces to mark the dance floor and the rest we did short centerpieces. We used mostly red flowers (spray roses, rover mums, hypericum berries, solidago) and brought in the orange by coloring the water. FUN! ^_^

For DIY brides out there, you can recreate this "bicolor cracked ice" look by doing the following:
(1) Fill the bottom vase half way with colored marbles (for this event, we used a combination of red, orange and clear marbles)
(2) Crumple a few small pieces of cellophane plastic wrap (the one usually used for gift basket wrap) and place them on top of the marbles.
(3) In a separate container, mix water (we used distilled water this event, but any types of water should be okay) with food color until you achieve the hue you like.
(4) Pour colored water in the vase.

For the tall centerpieces, we added curly willow and on the bottom of the vase, we added LED light, to make them a little different. ^_^

As for her cake, she would like to have a full look, so we decided to do a "waterfall"-like effect on the cake. I think it turned out great! ^_^

Ayanna reused the altar arrangements from the church/ceremony for the place card table and the memoriam table. The flowers used in these arrangements are Casablanca Lilies, Vendella Roses, Baby's Breath/Gypsophilias, and Seeded Eucalyptus.

Her reception was held at the beautiful Spring Mill Manor, Ivyland. Pam Kerr, the sales manager, and her staff were courteous, helpful and fully cooperative. They really made my life a lot easier. ^_^

To Ayanna and Clifton:
Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity!
Many happy wishes for you two always! ^_^
